Walk for HOPE fundraising

Sharon Metzger

The Walk for HOPE — coming up in just 5 weeks on May 22 — is the most significant annual event for HOPE worldwide Massachusetts. Its goal is to raise funds for our food pantry in Framingham, food pantries across Massachusetts, and HOPE worldwide.

Who we’re fundraising and walking for:

With the challenge of food insecurity heightening during the pandemic, this year’s virtual walk is more timely than ever. Today, 1 in 5 families are struggling with food insecurity.

Because of this, our goal is to raise $150,000 which will directly support 10 food pantries across Massachusetts and an additional donation for needs in Ukraine:
  • Hope worldwide Framingham Food Pantry
  • Arlington Eats
  • Epiphany Food Pantry
  • Hyde Park Food Pantry
  • Merrimack Valley Food Bank
  • M.O. L.I.F.E Inc
  • My Brothers Table
  • Somerville Homeless Coalition
  • The Charity Guild Food Pantry
  • Allston-Brighton Food Pantry
To reach our goal, we need to start today, and we need your help. The past two years have been record-breaking due to your generosity and fundraising efforts, and we know this year will be the same.

Here are some ideas of how to get involved:

Start thinking about the amount of money you want to raise this year and how you can campaign and raise funds.

This site (www.hopeworldwidema.org/walk-for-hope-resourceshas some fundraising ideas you can include in your plan, such as these:
  • Set up a personal fundraising site: https://www.hopeworldwidema.org/walk-for-hope.
  • Raise funds at a local business or store front.
  • Host a special event using a talent you have, such as coffeehouses, special dinners, haircuts, yard sales, car washes, etc.
  • Serve. Ideas include babysitting, doing yard work, teaching computer skills, etc.
  • Fast from a meal (or more) and donate the money saved.
  • Ask friends, family, and coworkers to join you. The goal is not only for you to donate but also to find ways to connect with those around you in this cause. Your personal fundraising site can also be a site where you, your family, and your friends can participate together as a team.
  • Invite your coworkers. The Walk is a great opportunity to connect with them over a shared desire to serve. Click here for an email template to make it easy to spread the word with your coworkers and friends.

See if your job will match any donations or would like to be a part of this event.

Many companies in the United States match charitable donations made by their employees. Check with your employer to see if they will match your gift and multiply your donation and impact. Here is a message you can use to ask:

“I'm interested in supporting the 501(c)(3) charity HOPE worldwide Massachusetts (EIN: 82-5498667), a nonprofit organization committed to changing lives through the compassion and commitment of dedicated volunteers to serve communities both locally and abroad. I've heard that many companies will match charitable donations made by their employees. Is that an option with our company? If the answer is ‘yes’, can you please direct me on how to request a matching donation?”

Thank you!

We are so grateful for you joining us in this event, and we cannot wait to see the impact we make in our communities TOGETHER!
